Hang the expenses

My latest illustration done for the Times Higher Education, while having a stinking cold by the way. That's right, I work through illness like a real illustrator. Grr!

Illustration Friday - Stretch

Not the most inventive response to the topic I admit but I wanted to have a go at drawing some facial expressions and expressive body postures. I think I've nailed a big yawn!

Those of you coming directly from Illustration Friday will notice that the colours have changed and that there's an amendment to the nostril. There's a lesson to be learnt here. Never rush uploading otherwise you'll miss mistakes (like the nostril) and you'll suddenly decide it needs a colour change. Thus endeth the lesson!

Ninjamountain

If you are not aware of Ninjamountain then do yourself a favour and follow the link provided. It's a really great podcast about the sci-fi, fantasy art business. I'm not a fantasy artist but the business and the manner of which illustrators promote themselves is fairly universal. It's well worth a listen.

Spelling Zom-Bee work in progress

This is a first pass at an idea I had a while back. I'm putting it up on a few forums to see if I can get some constructive feedback before submitting it to one of the many, many t-shirt competition sites out there. Looking at it as I write this I'm thinking I could add a few blood spots, so hopefully with a lot of fresh eyes scanning it I will get lots of suggestions which will make this into a better design.

Hulk practice piece

A little practice piece. In three months time I'll do another to compare the difference. Hopefully they'll be a massive improvement. If not I'm doing something very wrong!

Cycling

This is going to be my next promo. Hopefully it'll get me a few commissions to pay for all these xmas presents!

Zero2illo live round up

I'm absolutely gutted that I missed this event because it sounds awesome and had some illustrators in attendance whom I admire very much. Oh, well! It looks like I'll have to wait a year until the next one. In the meantime the people at Zero2illo have been kind enough to post a round up of the event with lots of the tasty tips  provided by these industry greats. I hope you find the information herein as useful and interesting as I found it to be.

Cinderella

Here's a little illustration I did for T.H.E about technicians being the Cinderella's of University staff. Should be out in the December issue which is very exciting. I always  enjoy seeing my work in print!

Another Magic Mushrooms reprint. Woo!

A massive thank you to all those who requested a reprint of my t-shirt design 'Magic Mushrooms'. Consider your wish granted! If that wasn't enough they've made it into a hoody! I know this post has a lot of exclamation marks, but I'm afraid you'll have to forgive me for that. I'm very pleased indeed!

If you haven't already picked yourself up a copy head over to Threadless. Exclamation mark!

Illustration Friday - Haunt

Hello! My third post in three consecutive weeks. Can I keep it up for four weeks? Tune in and find out! Anyway, enough rambling from me. This is my response to the Illustration Friday topic 'Haunt'. I thought about going down the silly road with a big crazy ghost but decided at the last minute to try something else and I'm glad I did. I hope you like it!

Toddlers Rampage

Monsters, Robots, and Aliens is the topic of the Shirt Woot Derby this week. I've never entered before, and I'm not sure why because I really like the Woot site and the t-shirts they print. The design is based on the 1986 computer game Rampage. If you can't remember it you're clearly younger than me and I am therefore jealous of your youth. Either way I hope you like the illustration.

Illustration Friday - Water

Slowly but surely I'm getting back into the blogging habit. Here's a little illustration for Illustration Friday's topic 'Water' which I hope you like. Right, I'm off to play football in the freezing cold.

iPhone case!

I haven't posted anything in a long while and saw this as a nice way to get back into the flow. Threadless have turned my Magic Mushrooms design into an iPhone case. Ooh. Shiny! Unfortunately I don't have an iPhone so until they start making covers for Samsung Galaxy Ace I'm out of luck.

Balance

This illustration will soon feature in the latest issue of the T.H.E. They're always good to work for as they give me total freedom and very rarely ask for changes. Nice one!

Illustration Friday - Lost

My last two Illo Friday submissions have had an outdoors feel, which is going to lead people to thinking I'm a lover of outdoor activities. I'm not. I would like to be but I live in the UK and being cold and wet go hand in hand with the outdoors. I don't think I've cleverly interpreted the subject but sometimes it's best to keep things simple.

Magic Mushrooms reprint

My Magic Mushrooms t-shirt has been reprinted by the lovely folks at Threadless. You can't see this but I'm doing my happy dance right now!

The future of home cinema

This is my next portfolio piece based on an article from the Home Cinema Choice website, which is handy as I'm sending this as a mail out to their magazine. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and designing the Minority Report style interface was a whole sack full of fun. I went for a complimentary colour scheme which in my humble opinion works nicely. All in all I'm well chuffed! That's right, I do actually use words like chuffed.

Football psychic

If you've read my last two posts you'd know that I'm in the process of revamping my website and this is my first illustration for my new portfolio. It's based on an article from Footballeditorial.com as I wanted to work from an a editorial source. The reason for this is I wanted an editorial theme as that's the intended market and it lead to ideas I would not have thought of. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The scary part's going to be talking to the art directors and seeing what they think! Wish me luck.

Illustration Friday - Suspend

After seeing how utterly crushed Andy Murray was after loosing to the tennis cyborg Roger Federer I thought I'd cheer him up by posting an Illustration Friday submission. I'm fairly certain he's a fan. I didn't really give myself a lot of time to get this done hence the very basic background but considering I've had the Moto GP, the British Grand Prix and Wimbledon men's final fighting for my attention I'm pleased with how much I got done. I hope it cheers you up to!

Illustration Friday - Hurry!

I've been a very lazy blogger of late so allow me to amend this by showing you my latest Illustration Friday piece. To those familiar with my work you'll notice a slight change from the norm. I'm trying a few things out as I felt I needed a revamp. I hope this pleases your eyeballs!

Anger Management - Qwertee

I came across a great site for t-shirt designers looking to make a penny or two. It's called Qwertee and if you're familiar with sites like TeeFury and The Yetee it works the same way with one exception. Like the sites mentioned if your design is selected you grant them the right to sell your design for 24hrs. In return you get $1 for every shirt sold. The one exception about Qwertee is the designs are selected by fellow designers and members of Qwertee. You can also see how many votes it's getting which can be a little addictive checking every hour to see if it's got anymore.

I've currently got a design up for sale now. Take a look and maybe buy yourself a tee. Alternatively submit a design and see how it goes!
